PREPARING FOR YOUR STAY

Everything you need to know to prepare for your travel to the Fiji Islands and for your stay at The Remote Resort

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR STAY

We look forward to welcoming you to the Fiji Islands and we offer you the following information to best plan for your stay!

Transfers to the resort

If you have not already done so, please email us your domestic flight arrival and departure details for Taveuni or Savusavu in order to arrange your car and boat transfers to the resort. We will arrange our local driver to meet you when you land.

Travel time to the resort from Taveuni airport is 20 minutes by car, followed by 30 minutes by boat. Travel time to the resort from Savusavu airport is 1 hour by car (on partly unsealed road), followed by 15 minutes by boat.

No need to pay anyone along the way and tipping is neither expected nor required in Fiji. Don’t worry Taveuni and Savusavu are very small airports so we won’t miss you but should you need to contact us enroute please note the Resort Manager phone +679 830 7909.

Special preferences

We value knowing a little more about you to best plan for your stay. Please feel free to email us with any special dietary preferences or other items you’d like us to note

Optional upgrade to Ultimate Spa

To book Ultimate Ugrades online: click on the link below, enter the dates of your stay and number of adults and children. Then scroll below the villas and select ‘Extras for your stay’. Select this and then over to the right click on Book. On the next page you will enter your details then select the extras you would like to add. Extras added in this way will be charged to your card 5 days prior to arrival (or immediately if booked within 5 days of arrival).

Pre-booking experiences

There is no need to book any of the experiences offered by The Remote Resort in advance (except weddings and diving). To book diving with us during your stay please see all of the details and forms to be emailed to us in advance to ensure that space is reserved on the dive boat for you. Diving is not charged in advance and cancellations can be made without penalty.

What to bring

We recommend bringing ‘wet’ shoes such as flip flops, crocs (suitable for wearing in the water), these are handy for wearing on the boats. We also recommend old hiking shoes/sneakers (some of the hiking can be quite muddy).

Insect repellant (aeroguard brand) is provided complimentary at the resort but if you have a personal preference for alternate brand then please plan to bring this with you

Sunscreen, as well as all of the usual holiday items (hat, camera, etc) and all medical items you may require (there is no pharmacy nearby)

There is no need to bring a hairdryer (one in each villa) or beach towels.

There is a travel adaptor to convert from USA to AUS/NZ plug in each villa. If you have a lot of devices that you may want to use/charge at the same time you may like to bring extras (usually easy to pick these up at the airport or pharmacy). The electrical current in Fiji is 240 volts. Fiji has three-pin power outlets, the same as those in Australia and New Zealand.

We have complimentary snorkel gear (adult sizes only) but if you have your own favorites then you are welcome to bring those.

Dress at The Remote Resort is casual. Light fabrics, golf shirts, short-sleeve shirts, summer dresses, sandals, t-shirts and shorts are all good bets. Bring a sweater or wrap for the winter months (June - August) and also useful for outdoor dining in the evenings.

Luggage

Please remember that unless your international flight was booked all the way through to Taveuni or Savusavu that your luggage allowance on the domestic flight will be 15kg per person. The charge for excess baggage is usually around FJD$8 per kilo. We recommend packing your essentials and a change of clothes as well as your swimmers in your carry-on luggage just in case your luggage should be delayed (very rare) so that you can carry on enjoying your holiday.

Travel insurance

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance as no refund will be given for no-shows, unused days, unused portions of pre-paid packages, weather, illness or for any factors beyond the control of the resort.

Visas

Nationals from countries considered visa-exempt including the US, Australia, NZ, UK, Canada China, Hong Kong SAR, are issued a 4 month tourist visa upon arrival as long as they have:

(i) a passport that is valid for 6 months from the date of arrival in Fiji

(ii) return or outbound tickets

(iii) entry/re-entry visa to the return or outbound country

(iv) evidence of sufficient funds for your stay in Fiji (if requested)

Phone and internet

We offer complimentary wifi in the Main Pavilion at The Remote Resort. Unfortunately the internet in Fiji is not as fast and reliable as more developed parts of the world. Access to the internet may be slow, intermittent and not available from time to time.

We generally have good cell phone coverage at the resort and there is a mobile phone in your villa for you to contact any members of the resort team at any time. Should you wish to give your friends and family a phone to contact you for emergencies please use the Resort Manager phone number +679 830 7909.

Payments at the resort

We are a cashless resort and are unable to provide change or currency conversion as there are no banks nearby.

Anything purchased at the resort can be added to your folio and settled with credit card.

We accept Visa, MasterCard or American Express and we do not charge any fees for credit card payments settled at the resort.

Tipping

Tipping is not required or expected in Fiji.

If desired by guests most resorts (including ours) will collect and distribute tips to staff as part of the Staff Fund.

Village visit

We offer a complimentary weekly village visit to a remote village.

Guests are not expected nor required to make a donation or purchase anything while at the village, we provide a weekly donation to the village for this visit and complimentary boat transfers for our guests.

For guests who would like to make a village donation or a purchase of souvenirs at the village please plan to do so in cash directly at the village as we are not able to add such payments to your folio at the resort.

When visiting villages modest dress is appropriate and women must cover their shoulders and knees. All persons must please remove their hats and sunglasses upon entering the village in respect of village customs.

Some guests plan to bring items for the village and while not expected these are always welcome. We recommend basic school supplies and sporting gear such as balls (we can inflate them here).

NADI STOPOVER

Whether you’ve got a few hours or are staying overnight, here are out tips on where to stay, eat, play and shop in Nadi

NADI STOPOVER

Whether you’ve got a few hours or are staying overnight, here are out tips on where to stay, eat, play and shop in Nadi

WHAT TO DO ON A NADI STOPOVER/LAYOVER

STORE LUGGAGE AT NADI AIRPORT

You can store your luggage at the international airport. The cost is approx. FJD$10 per bag per day. This is a great option if you don’t need a dayroom. From Nadi airport you can jump in a taxi.

DAYROOM OR 1 NIGHT STOPOVER IN NADI

If you’re looking to have a base to store your luggage and refresh before your flight we recommend booking a dayroom in advance, here are our recommendations:

The cheap and cheerful option closest to the airport is the Fiji Gateway - it is right opposite the airport with a free shuttle at the back of the International Arrivals hall. This is best if you’re not planning to spend any time in your room except for having a shower. There is a pool and you could grab a bite to eat before your next flight as there are limited options at the airport (i.e. Hungry Jacks and a Pizza bar). https://www.fijigateway.com +679 6734755

For something a little further off the track and unique, you may consider the Fiji Orchid https://www.fijiorchid.com It is 25 minutes from the airport but a unique setting away from the crowds with a lovely restaurant. +679 228 0097. It is past the Garden of the Sleeping Giant direction.

GARDEN OF THE SLEEPING GIANT

For a lovely walk we recommend The Garden of the Sleeping Giant. It is about a 10-15 minute drive from the airport (4 miles and not in the direction of Nadi town or Port Denarau) and offers a beautiful walk through tropical flora and fauna (home to one of the world’s largest orchid collections). Entry fee is around FJD20 and the garden opens 9am - 5pm (closed Sunday). http://www.gardenofsleepinggiant.com

PORT DENARAU, NADI TOURIST RETAIL AND DINING PRECINCT

To grab something to eat and have a look at some of the higher-quality shopping available in Fiji we recommend Port Denarau http://www.fiji.travel/activity/port-denarau-shopping-centre This is about 20-25 minutes drive from the airport (say cost of FJD$40 for the driver each way). This is a tourist area with mostly chain restaurants (i.e. Hard Rock Cafe).

Port Denarau is open 7 days from 9am till 11pm (including school holidays) and is home to a collection of restaurants, bars, shopping, retail and clothing, tour operators, car rental agencies, as well as services such as spa, hair, nail and banks.

NADI MAIN TOWN - LOCAL MARKETS & SRI SIVA SUBRAMANIYA TEMPLE

Sri Siva Subramaniya temple is located in Nadi town (about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport). It is the largest Hindu temple in the South Pacific. The Sri Siva Subramaniya temple is located at the southern end of the main road through Nadi and is the largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere. This is an hour well-spent if you're looking for a way to get a feel of the local Indian culture. Remember to dress modestly and be respectful as this is a place of worship. You aren't allowed to take any photographs inside the temple but you can take photos of the exterior. Any taxi driver will be able to take you there as well as to see the local fruit and vegetable markets nearby. Nadi town is the local heart of the city (please note that it is quite dirty so we do not recommend eating in this area).
